Our Story

African Crafts LLC is owned by the Walugembe Family: Miss. Loy Christina Walugembe, Mrs. Allen Walugembe Nabalindwa and Mr. James Aliddeki Walugembe. The three of us grew up in Uganda, a nation in East Africa, seeing women – especially single mothers playing a key role to community development and family wellbeing through art, by weaving baskets, wood carvings, and many other items in the form of art. Despite their hard work and a great deal of knowledge invested in their art, they reap less out of it.
At Swahili, we fairly work with those artisans and invest proceeds from our African product sales to develop sustainable market access, train and fund them. Our goal is to enable them as partners to prosper and thrive well into the future; and we commit our resources and resolve on bridging gaps, opening doors and providing opportunities for them to join the international marketplace.
